Welcome to our home. You are invited to visit our evolving site and experience for yourself what a sustainable urban environment might look like.

Stay overnight or attend a workshop and spend a few days. Our hope is that you'll find our home comfortable, relaxing, and inspirational. If you're already familiar with common environmental practices like recycling, composting and eating organic food, you'll feel right at home here. If not, we'd be happy to explain their importance, as well as our use of organic bedding, biodegradable detergents and energy saving appliances.

Green Lodging refers to hosting practices which support environmental health. We are demonstrating ways to reduce consumption and waste. We love sharing what we know and learning more from our guests.

We have become a Washington State non-profit, Fertile Ground Community Center, demonstration site for sustainable living. Read our mission statement for more information.

Check out our two new satelite facilities:
The Bamboo Bungalow ~

The Bamboo Bungalow is just around the corner from the famous San Francisco Street bakery. It is tucked into an exotic collection of living bamboo and treasures gathered from beaches and forests around Western Washington.

Just a 15 minute walk (or 3 minute drive) takes you down San Francisco Street to East Bay Drive. Breathtaking views of the Olympic Mountains and Budd Inlet are visible all the way to the heart of downtown Olympia.

Starting Jan. 1, 2012
we are no longer accepting credit cards
for payment due to our disapproval with how big banks use our money to make huge profits. We accept cash & checks and there are many ATM machines withing walking distance where you can access cash from your credit card if you desire to.

Bamboo Bungalow, Too ~

The Bamboo Bungalow, Too is a cozy little one bedroom cottage with lots of great custom woodwork, natural light and outdoor areas. Located just a few blocks east of downtown, it's perfect for up to two people. Both of these units come with the Fertile Ground seal of approval for sustainability, comfort and style.

If you need assistance during your stay, don't hesitate to ask. We value opportunites to provide a more pleasant and relaxing environment. As your breakfast maker, Gail takes pleasure in offering friendly, attentive hospitality to each and every guest. Her open manner creates an atmosphere that encourages guests to engage in questions and share ideas. Karen has been in Olympia since the mid '60s and knows all the ins and outs. She's now making pottery in the basement and selling it to support Fertile Ground Community Center.

Many other volunteers and contributors are also responsible for the progress of Fertile Ground, but they are too numerous to mention here. Our goal is to provide you with an experience which is beautiful, tastey and fun. Our mottos is: Try this at home.

We've been honored to have many wonderful people here as guests and visitors. They are too numerous to mention. When our hero, Alan Atkisson, booked a room we were beside ourselves with excitement because it was his book, Believing Cassandra that gave us the inspiration to start a Green B&B. Other amazing guests include Daniel Ellsberg, Alice Walker and Amy Goodman.

Pictured here is Amy Goodman, host of Democracy Now!. Because of all our diverse talents and enterprises she said "I call people like you - 'DoAllogists' " Thanks Amy!
